Powers Versus Cards in Slay the Spire

Powers persist

A power card applies an effect that lasts the whole fight. You play it once and it keeps working.

That makes powers efficient: one energy now, value every turn after. The cost is a card slot spent upfront.

Cards are one-shot

Normal attack and skill cards do their job and leave. They are flexible but never compound on their own.

A deck of only one-shot cards must re-pay for the same effect each turn. That drains energy fast.

Mix the two

Powers set the engine; cards fire it. A strength power plus cheap attacks beats either alone.

Do not load up on powers with no way to act. You need cards to spend the energy the power frees.

Frequently asked questions

What is a power card?

A power gives a lasting effect for the rest of the combat. It leaves play after use but its bonus stays.

Should I pick powers over attacks?

Often, yes, if the power supports your plan. A good power pays off every turn, while one attack helps once.

Are powers worth taking in Slay the Spire?

A power pays off only if your deck can use it each turn. Take powers that fit your plan, not ones that sit dead in hand.
