What mutations do

Mutations are passive perks that last for the run. They change how you fight, heal or move.

You equip three at a time. A matching stat makes the right mutations stronger.

Unlocking and rerolling

You unlock mutations with cells at the Collector. More become available as you spend cells over many runs.

Between biomes you can swap or reroll your picks. Rerolling costs gold, so choose before you commit.

Build around a habit

Pick mutations that match how you already play. If you parry often, take perks that reward it.

Wasting a slot on a perk you never trigger is a common leak. Three useful pickups beat one lucky one.

Tier up over time

A mutation grows in power as its colour stat rises. Keep the same three long enough and they scale with your scrolls.

Frequently asked questions

How many mutations can I equip?

You carry three active mutations at a time. Extra picks can be swapped in between biomes.

Does a mutation scale with my stats?

Many mutations grow stronger as the matching colour stat rises, so they scale the same way your weapons do.

What are the best mutations in Dead Cells?

The mutations that match how you play. A player who parries often gains more from perks that reward a block than from raw damage.

Can I change mutations during a Dead Cells run?

Yes. You can swap or reroll your picks between biomes, though rerolling costs gold.
