What a transformation is

A transformation triggers when you collect a set of related items. Reach the set size and a bonus turns on.

The bonus is usually strong. It can add flight, extra attacks, or a whole new effect.

Sets count specific items

Each transformation has its own list of items. Only those items count toward the set.

The items still work on their own. You gain the set bonus on top, not instead.

Guppy and the famous flight

The Guppy set is the best known. Collect the needed pieces and you gain flight and a swarm of flies.

That swarm turns your hits into small damage dealers. Flight also opens routes a ground-bound run cannot take.

Partial sets and planning

A set you almost finish still helps. The pieces you took are useful even without the bonus.

Track your set as you pick items. Knowing how far you are guides the next pedestal choice.

Next: Item synergies basics and Trinkets and consumables.

Frequently asked questions

How many items does a transformation need?

Most sets need a small fixed number of matching items. The exact count depends on the set.

Is a partial set useless?

No. Each item in the set still works on its own, and you may finish the set later.

How do you become Guppy in Binding of Isaac?

Collect the Guppy item set. Reaching the set size grants flight and a swarm of attack flies.

Do transformations in Binding of Isaac need every item in the set?

Yes. Only the listed items count, so a set you almost finish leaves the bonus off.
