Death Defiance Usage in Hades: When to Spend Your Lives

What a defiance is

A Death Defiance revives you on the spot when you fall. It is the run’s safety net, not a score multiplier.

You start with a few and can raise that count. Each use is gone for the rest of the attempt.

Spend, do not hoard

A defiance unused at the end of a clear helped no one. The point is to trade it for a room you would otherwise fail.

When a room is going badly, pop one early. Clutching it while you die anyway is the common waste.

Bank them for bosses

Save a defiance for a boss you have not learned yet. The revive gives you a free read on the pattern.

That read often wins the next attempt. The boss strategies page tells you what to watch for.

Frequently asked questions

How many death defiances do you start with?

You begin a run with a small number of death defiances and can add more through upgrades. Each one revives you once.

Should I save all my death defiances?

No. A defiance kept through a won run did nothing. Spend one to survive a brutal room rather than lose the whole attempt.

Can you get more death defiances in Hades?

Yes. Upgrades and certain boons raise your starting count, so a later run can begin with more revives than the first.

Should I save death defiances for the Hades final boss?

Keep one for the last fight if you can. A revive there gives you a free read on a phase you have not learned yet.
