The same habits, again and again
Runs rarely end from one mistake. They end from a small habit repeated until the clock catches up.
These habits feel fine while you do them. That is what makes them expensive.
Standing still for loot
Opening one more chest across the map feels safe, because nothing is shooting you yet. Meanwhile the difficulty bar climbs.
That chest is not free. It costs the seconds the director spends raising the threat.
Skipping shrines entirely
Avoiding every shrine sounds cautious. It also throws away cheap items that a risky build needs to keep pace.
The fix is to price each shrine, not to avoid them all. Take the cheap ones, skip the ones that drain your clock.
Ignoring movement items
Damage items are exciting, so players chase them and skip movement. Then a charging boss ends the run in a corner.
Movement is defense in this game. A fast survivor survives fights a slow one cannot.
Fighting every elite
Elites pay out gold and feel worth the fight. But a pack of elites costs time and health for a reward you might not need.
Fight elites that block your route. Walk past the ones that only feed your gold pile.
Hoarding gold
Gold resets each stage, so gold on the ground at the teleporter is lost power. Players still leave unspent gold behind.
Spend it before you step through. The next stage does not care what you saved.
